Resident Evil : Infinite Darkness

Okay, so picture this: me, curled up on the couch with a huge bowl of popcorn (way too much butter, I confess!), ready for a night of zombie-slaying action. I thought, "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness? Sounds cool, let's dive in!" I was expecting a thrill ride, you know, classic RE goodness. What I got was... well, let's just say it was an experience. Let's unpack it, shall we?

The premise is simple enough: Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, reunited, are investigating a new outbreak of zombies – this time, connected to a mysterious incident in Penamstan. Sounds epic, right? And in terms of pure, unadulterated Resident Evil atmosphere, the series always delivers. The animation is slick, the music is suitably creepy, and the characters, though a little stiff at times (more on that later!), are recognizable.

But here's where things get a little… hmmm… interesting. The plot. Oh, the plot! It's like someone took a bunch of Resident Evil tropes, threw them in a blender, and hoped for the best. We've got secret agents, corrupt politicians, bio-weapons, and of course, hordes of the undead. Don't get me wrong, I love a good conspiracy, but this one felt a bit… convoluted, even by Resident Evil standards. Anyone else feel like they needed a whiteboard to keep track of all the players and their motives? (Seriously, let me know in the comments!).

And speaking of the characters… Leon and Claire are icons, no question. But in Infinite Darkness, they felt a little…off. Leon, the stoic hero, spends a lot of time looking brooding and murmuring cryptic things. Claire, the determined activist, spends a lot of time…being determined. It's like they're stuck in a loop of their most iconic traits. I'm not saying they're bad, but they didn't quite have the spark I was hoping for. You know, that "I'm gonna kick zombie butt and look good doing it" attitude that makes them so lovable.

What really works though? The action sequences. When the bullets start flying and the zombies start shambling, Infinite Darkness delivers the goods. There are some genuinely tense moments, and the animation makes the fights feel visceral and impactful. Especially that submarine scene! Okay, maybe the logic of some of the action is a little…questionable… but hey, it's Resident Evil! We're here for the spectacle, not the scientific accuracy. Am I right?

The series, even though its called "Infinite Darkness", doesn’t quite reach the heights of some of the other Resident Evil adaptations. The story feels overstuffed, and the characters, while recognizable, lack a certain spark. But... and it's a big but... it's still Resident Evil! If you're a die-hard fan like me, you'll probably find something to enjoy, even if it's just the nostalgia and the zombie-slaying action. Just don't go in expecting a masterpiece.

In conclusion, if you need a quick dose of zombie action, Infinite Darkness can scratch that itch. Is it the best Resident Evil story ever told? Nope. Is it a fun, mindless watch with some cool action sequences? Absolutely. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go replay Resident Evil 2 and remind myself what Leon and Claire are really capable of.
